STURGIS — The Sturgis tennis team dropped both of its matches this week in Wolverine Conference play.
The Trojans fell to Vicksburg on Wednesday, 7-1.
“The Trojans gave a good effort but the Bulldogs were a little too strong,” Sturgis coach George Earl said.
George Ebert at first singles picked up the lone victory for Sturgis on the day. He beat Maddox Rosalin by scores of 6-0, 6-0 in that matchup.
Carter Oswald moved up to second singles and fell to Jordan Diekman 6-0, 6-1 while Brody Currier dropped his match at third singles to Sawyer Kite in three sets at 7-6, 4-6, 6-2. Logan White came into the varsity lineup and played at fourth singles due to injury, he fell in his matchup to Caden Town at 6-0, 6-0.
Vicksburg won all four doubles matches.
The top team of Andrew Scheske and Alex Cypher for Sturgis fell to Gio Gangloff and Wes Post at 6-1, 6-2. Cooper and Easton Barkby dropped their matchup at second doubles at 6-1, 6-2. Brayden Bibb and Dom Brown (6-0, 6-0) fell at third doubles, as did Jonathan Bidde and Nixon Orpilla (6-0, 6-2) at fourth doubles.
On Monday, Sturgis fell to Otsego by a 5-3 team score.
Ebert won at first singles in this matchup as well, beating Flo Riquelme by a 6-0, 6-2 score.
Oswald played to a win at third singles (6-1, 6-3) and Currier won 6-0, 1-0 (retired) at fourth singles. Wyatt Miller was upended at second singles 6-4, 7-5.
Otsego won all four doubles matches.
Cooper and Easton Barkby fell in three sets at second doubles 7-6 (9), 1-6, 6-2. Bidde and Orpilla fell at fourth doubles in three sets as well 6-0, 3-6, 6-0. White and Cypher dropped their match at first doubles 6-3, 6-3 while at third doubles, the team of Bibb and Brown lost 7-6 (4), 6-4.
