Sir Elton John has “faith” in a higher power.
The 77-year-old singer doesn’t believe in the “biblical God too much” – but Elton is convinced that a “higher power” has being looking after him throughout his life.
The ‘Your Song’ hitmaker told TIME magazine: “I don’t really believe in the biblical God too much, but I have faith.
“My higher power has been looking after me all my life; he’s got me through drugs, he’s got me through depression, he’s got me through loneliness, and he got me sober. He’s been there all the time, I think. I just didn’t acknowledge him.”
Elton has enjoyed an incredibly successful career in the music industry, winning a host of accolades along the way. But Elton accepts that there’s much more to life than fame and success.
Reflecting on his personal legacy, Elton said: “If people remember that we tried to change the world a little bit, we were kind, we tried to help people. And then, apart from that, there was the music.”
Elton recently revealed that he wants to be remembered as a “great husband and an even better father”.
The singer – who has sons Zachary, 13, and Elijah, 11, with husband David Furnish – insisted that his family life is more important that his music career.
Elton said on ‘Good Morning America’: “My music speaks for itself. My legacy is that I was a great husband and an even better father.
“The music, the career is fantastic. It’s been mind-blowing, groundbreaking. But the most important thing to me in my life is making sure my children are happy, they have a wonderful life and that I was good to them. That’s all that counts.”
