Monday’s commute to and from work could be a snowy one for people throughout the GTA.

On Sunday evening, Environment Canada issued a winter weather travel advisory for several parts of the region, including Toronto, Mississauga-Brampton, Burlington-Oakville, Caledon, Halton Hills-Milton, Newmarket-Georgina-Northern York Region, Pickering-Oshawa-Southern Durham Region, and Vaughan-Richmond Hill-Markham.

The national weather agency is calling for snowfall accumulations of 5 to 10 centimetres and is warning of low visibility in areas where the snow is heavier snow.

The snowfall is expected to start on Monday morning and last until Monday night with a possible break in the afternoon.

It is expected to taper off to flurries by the evening with a risk of freezing drizzle, the agency added.

Only a few centimetres are expected from this round of snow. Another more significant round of snow is expected to move into the area Monday evening. Total snowfall amounts of 5 to 10 cm will be possible.

Motorists are urged to be cautious as there may be hazardous driving conditions due to snow covered and icy roads and adjust their travel plans accordingly, Environment Canada said.

“Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow,” it said.

“Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for taillights ahead and be prepared to stop.”
