Last week, we discussed a huge Starfield project that was being undertaken to make the universe of the game bigger than ever.
Well, that news didn’t even last out the week because it has already been cancelled and it has left fans without a wealth of new stuff to do.
Starfield is getting an official expansion later this year with the Shattered Space DLC.
I previously wrote about this project that was due to bring together several of Bethesda’s games under the Starfield banner.
A mod team had announced on Reddit that they wanted to bring Skyrim, Oblivion, and Morrowind into Starfield to create one huge Bethesdaverse.
However, upon writing, it seemed like it was all a big hoax or at least a piece of satire about the way modders attempt vast projects that ultimately get cancelled.
New-Star-340, the modder in question, was being hounded on Reddit as the project seemed too good to be true. After all, it was supposed to bring not only the worlds of those three games to Starfield, but also all of the quests, NPCs, and items.
Speaking to VG247, New-Star-340 said, “After sharing the initial concept with the community, it became clear that the support we were hoping for just wasn’t there. Many fans voiced concerns and indicated that they were not interested in seeing this project come to fruition.”
The project was cancelled and we’re unlikely to ever hear of it again. So, was it ever a legit idea?
Well, probably. However, that doesn’t mean it was ever possible, and it could have been a bait-and-switch from the off, or just an idea for laughs.
The modder continues to say, “In terms of the team, we were a small group of passionate modders excited about the possibilities. However, the feedback we received made us realise that the excitement we felt wasn’t shared by the broader community.”
This doesn’t bring into account the number of fans who believed this to be a product of satire, given that the original Reddit post was asking for volunteers and not even giving out contact information.
Whatever it was, it will never exist. It’s a concept that certainly won’t be worked on by this team, and its scope may have been a bit too big anyway.
