T schools under scrutiny: NHRC flags hygiene & infra concerns – Times of India
Hyderabad: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has raised concerns with the chief secretary of state govt regarding a complaint pertaining to the deplorable conditions found in govt schools across the state.The complainant alleged that several schools lack basic infrastructure such as sufficient classrooms, functioning toilets, clean drinking water facilities, and safe playgrounds. “Sanitary conditions in several schools are abysmal, posing health risks to students and staff. The schools do not allocate funds to hire necessary personnel for maintaining cleanliness,” the complaint read.Furthermore, it pointed out a glaring shortage of essential educational resources like textbooks, lab equipment, and teaching aids. “The quality of food provided is unhygienic, sometimes contaminated,” the complainant added.The NHRC has directed the chief secretary’s office to provide a response to these allegations within four weeks. Failure to comply will result in action, possibly including a physical inspection of the schools.
