The summer holidays are coming to a close this weekend but there’s still plenty of summer fun to be had in Hamilton and surrounding areas.
We’ve put together a list to help you make the most of this Labour Day weekend.
To mark the end of summer, Kingsview Community Church in Hamilton’s Soney Creek area will host its first ever fireworks festival.
The festival features food trucks and begins at 5 p.m. on Sunday in Paramount Park at 1170 Paramount Dr.
Hamilton and District Labour Council is hosting its annual Labour Day Parade and Picnic in Bayfront Park at 200 Harbour Front Dr., in Hamilton on Monday. There will be live entertainment, food, a beer tent, and family and children’s activities.
The parade takes place from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum at 9280 Airport Rd. in Hamilton’s Mount Hope area is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily this long weekend, including Monday.
The museum says many of its aircraft are scheduled to be flying over the weekend — including the Lancaster.
Dundurn National Historic Site at 610 York Blvd., in Hamilton is hosting a free outdoor garden event this Sunday and Monday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Young ones are invited to drop in for free nature-based activities in Sophia’s Garden, a new child-focused garden featuring plants selected to inspire kids to touch, smell, and interact with nature, according to the event website. Guests can also visit the Hamilton Children’s Museum, which has activities.
What organizers call Canada’s largest rib festival gets underway Saturday in Spencer Smith Park at 1400 Lakeshore Rd. in Burlington, Ont. Award-winning ribbers from all over North America will compete for titles such as ‘Best Sauce’ and ‘Best Ribs.’
The event takes place over Labour Day weekend, ending Monday, and includes musical entertainment, art and activies for children.
This event is a charitable fundraising initiative run by Rotary Burlington Lakeshore and has raised almost $5 million for local and international organizations over the past 25 years, organizers say.
You can be part of the football tradition on Monday as Hamilton Tiger-Cats play against the Toronto Argonauts in the Labour Day Classic at Tim Hortons Field at 64 Melrose Ave. N., in Hamilton.
