A local police officer saved the day when he arrived just in time to stop a toddler with autism from drowning in the backyard of his home.
On Sunday, Sept. 22, 3-year-old Aziel Calvillo was reported missing from his home in Fort Wayne, Ind., at 2:20 p.m. local time, according to a press release from the Fort Wayne Police Department.
Representatives from the Fort Wayne Police Department did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
Upon arriving at the scene, “Officers searched the residence and the surrounding area looking for the child,” officials said. Speaking with local news outlet WPTA, the young boy’s father, Alex Calvillo, explained the moment he realized his son was missing.
“My friend goes, ‘Where’s your son?’ So I was like, he should’ve been on the couch watching his tablet. I look out the kitchen doorway and see that the garage door was open, so I immediately ran out and started looking for him and couldn’t find him,” Calvillo recalled to the outlet.

The boy’s mother, Savannah Ybarra, also explained how she felt when she couldn’t locate her son. “Like okay, this is serious, I need to call the cops. They’re all out looking for him as well and it’s obviously nerve-wracking at this time, and with being pregnant it’s even more stressful because I’m just like I don’t know where he’s at,” she told the outlet.

Once he arrived at the home, “Officer E. Myers was able to locate and rescue the child from drowning, in an above-ground pool,” per the release from the police department, and the rescue was all captured via the officer’s body cam footage.
Finding the toddler crying, Meyers immediately went to soothe him and remove him from the pool. “Come here buddy. Hey. Hey you okay. He’s breathing [and] conscious,” Meyers can be heard saying in the footage.
