Wimbledon: Fritz into last 16
American Taylor Fritz, the No 13 seed, defeated Chilean Alejandro Tabilo, the No 24 seed, 7-6 (3), 6-3, 7-5 to move into the last 16 of Wimbledon at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London on Saturday evening.
Fritz, ranked No 12, will play German Alexander Zverev, the No 4 seed, next.
Fritz is one of three American men to have reached the round of 16 at Wimbledon this year. He is into the round of 16 at Wimbledon for the second time in three years. He reached a career-best quarter-final in 2022.
The American won against Australian Christopher O’Connell (6-1, 6-2, 6-4) and edged out Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech (6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds of The Championships, Tabilo, ranked No 19, beat Daniel Evans (6-2, 7-5, 6-3) and Italian Flavio Cobolli (7-6 (4), 7-6 (4), 4-6, 4-6, 6-4).
