Thirteen sophomores including 2023 Canada juvenile champion
and multiple stakes winner My Boy Prince, will contest the US$735,700 King’s Plate,
the first leg of the Canadian Triple Crown which highlights a stakes-filled
Friday card of racing at Woodbine.

The 165th edition of The King’s Plate, North America’s
oldest continually run horse race contested at 1 1/4 miles on the Woodbine synthetic
course, originally was scheduled for last weekend. However, torrential rain
throughout the greater Toronto area caused unsafe racing conditions, prompting
the rescheduling of the first event in the tri-surface series for Canada-bred
3-year-olds.
Bedard, originally was scratched from the Plate, is authorized
to run now after the approval of the Alcohol Gaming Commission of Ontario.
Friday’s card, which gets underway at 1:05 p.m.
EDT, showcases a quartet of standout stakes events that also were slated
to run Saturday. They include the Grade 2 King Edward going one mile on turf, the
Bold Venture Stakes (G3) run at 6 1/2 furlongs on the synthetic track, the Soaring
Free for 2-yer-olds going 6 1/2 furlongs on turf and the Catch a Glimpse for
2-year-old fillies racing 6 1/2 furlongs on turf.
The King Edward and Soaring Free, which had been taken off
the turf during Saturday’s storm, will be run on that surface Friday. Horses who
were scratched because of the original surface change have been authorized to
run this week.
All rescheduled stakes races will be carded as they were Saturday,
including post positions.
A sunny day with a high temperature of 77 degrees has been
forecast by Environment Canada for Friday.
