The latest project to update sanitation and water lines in the city has been underway in Morrisroe.
Work began about a month ago near 32nd Street, west of Munro Crescent, to replace 90-metre sections of line.
“We’ve had the sanitary line in that area collapse in the past. We did a repair on it, but through an inspection of the line it was deemed from an integrity standpoint that we needed to replace it so there weren’t long-term issues,” said Cody Gillrie, environmental planning superintendent, with the city.
He expected the contractor should have the work complete in the next two to three weeks, depending on the weather.
Gillrie said projects to update the lines are done around the city as the infrastructure ages. The Morrisroe lines were originally installed in the 1960s.
City services for nearby residents will continue during the project. There can be short disruptions, but residents are notified, he said.
Similar infrastructure work is currently underway elsewhere in the city, including near 43rd Avenue and Ross Street. That project will take about a month to a month-and-a-half to complete.
